    People have been …
People have been allowed to view bears here for years.. how on earth could they be allowed to hunt them. Talk about breaking trust.

  2. verodehaes Says:

    LIONS DO NOT USE …
LIONS DO NOT USE GUNS …
but there is no use in trying to convince a hunter to respect nature and special spots such as Mc Neil. What do you know about politics anyway ?

  3. Michaeljharter Says:

    Humans hunting …
Humans hunting bears is just as natural as a lion killing a gazel. Its not wrong to hunt or to kill an animal for recreation. This video is nothing more than political hype.

    I’m fron Belgium. …
I’m fron Belgium. Here in Europe no one has been able to protect wildlife. Having 8 bears in France in such a big deal for european … You simply do not realize how lucky you are to live in such a wonderful place. You should think protection, education, eco toursim but mass hunting especially in that precise place is nonsense. Shame on you. And I’m not against hunting but that precise spot is simply unacceptable …

  5. comicfl Says:

    That doesn’t change …
That doesn’t change the fact that I hunt bears.

  6. comicfl Says:

    I am going hunting …
I am going hunting in Alaska this fall, but I would not hunt here. If the bear just walks up to you there is no point.

  7. mariekathy Says:

    The McNeil River …
The McNeil River bears are not aggressive because of the abundance of food in the river. Take the fish away and all those nice little humans become dinner right now. Reading these posts seems many of you were duped by that idot Tredwell who got himself and another person killed through his ignorant acts. 8 bears in a 6400 square mile national forest area. Like the bears are going to go extinct. Get facts, not a bunch of emotional hype to take your money from you.

  8. jasonquest Says:

    Hunters are the …
Hunters are the biggest conservation group in the world. Giving out 8 licenses isnt going to destroy the population, but make it a more sustainable number. The money they spend on the licenses in large part goes to pay for conservation efforts. Their population is in decline because their numbers are too great for one location.

Keep up the great work and save these magnificent beasts.

    YES! we won the …
YES! we won the battle and no hunt will take place this fall. THANK YOU to all the people who wrote to the board of game. Thanks wildlife alliance for your efforts, it paid off.

somthing like this really make’s me made, how would they like it if the shoe was on the other foot and they are the one’s being hunted.this need’s to be stopped.

    The government of …
The government of Alaska should be ashamed of itself. The interest of America at large in protecting these bears is made obvious by all of the tourism dollars Alaska enjoys. The fact that hunting of bears habituated by tourism (that benefits Alaska) is insulting to anyone that has visited McNeil. Alaska has shown little regard for animal rights in the past but this is a clear economic issue. Why horrifically shoot a bear that is bringing in tourism dollars? What an embarassment.

i too have lived in …
i too have lived in alaska all my life. I didn’t mean to suggest that no one in alaska cares about wildlife, that statement was too broad, but in my experience, wildlife protection is simply not a priority for most people in Alaska. Alaska’s (elected!) government disregard for wildlife is only a reflection of the majority of people’s similar disregard. Therefore, it is up to the rest of the country to force Alaska’s government to protect its own lands and wildlife.

  14. julianave Says:

    Excuse me, I have …
Excuse me, I have lived in Alaska my whole life and I know plenty of people and organizations that fight everyday for the conservation and preservation of the wildlife that surrounds us. I agree the Alaskan gov’t often has no thought for wildlife but please keep in mind that if citizens had no appreciation for the natural beauty of Alaska and its creatures then why the would we live here?! Please be more mindful next time you suggest that Alaskans ‘have no desire to protect the wildlife’

    That’s a sweet video you’ve got here.

You should check out my vids.. I’m usually posting them here: videos.lostfrog ‘dot’ com, Check it out its pretty cool.

  16. iveknownrivers Says:

    alaska’s government …
alaska’s government and citizens have no desire to protect the wildlife they are so blessed to live among. Therefore, it is up to people in the lower 48 to ensure Alaska’s wildlife remains protected.

    Protecting the …
Protecting the McNeil River Bears should be a priority.
Sign the petition at the Defenders of Wildlife web site. These are not hunters they are no nothings that want to walk up to a bear or wolf and kill it. Vote the Governor of Alaska out of office, elect someone that will protect wildlife. wahots wolf

If a bear is shot, …
If a bear is shot, it becomes the trophy of one or very few individuals. If lives on, many people get to see and enjoy it directly or through photographs. Allowing these bears to be killed is a gross imbalance of interests in that few rather than many get to enjoy them. Further, the trust that these bears have developed in humans is the same trust that leaves them so vulnerable. I strongly encourage those who have the the power to propect them to exercise that power!

  19. mgordanier Says:

    I personally have …
I personally have never been an advocate for trophy hunting of any animal. I find this to be incredibly chicken hearted of the “Mighty Hunters”. When you can walk right up to the animal and shoot it, point blank, well, that does not impress anyone. To hunt for your survival is one thing, to hunt for your pleasure is entirely another matter.

  20. alaskangrizzly Says:

    Again, Alaska’s …
Again, Alaska’s government is a century in the past. Bears are more profitable alive than dead. A person may pay $10,000 for a trip to hunt a Grizzly; however, once they are gone, they are gone. There is NO need to eradicate Alaska’s predators. Don’t let this happen!

  21. RoyToft Says:

    This is an outrage! …
This is an outrage! I’m a wildlife photographer and have seen these same easy going Bears year after year for many year. These hunters will be killing bears that totally trust humans. What a short sighted Alaskan Government. Don’t let this happen.

  22. vedelia Says:

    Shooting these …
Shooting these bears, after they have become so accustomed to human presence, would simply be slaughter.
I detest hunting, but even for those who consider it a legitimate pursuit, surely no satisfaction could possibly be attained from shooting animals so socialised and comfortable with the proximity of humans.

  23. AriKapari Says:

    This controversy is …
This controversy is the best argument I’ve seen for severely cutting back bear hunting throughout Alask–not just at McNeil. It illustrates how little value bear hunters contribute to the economy versus wildlife viewing tourists.

  24. dobiemanAK Says:

    Keep in mind this …
Keep in mind this is a trophy hunt. It is not for subsistence or protection of life or property. In Alaska the majority of bears are already subject to trophy hunting.
The hunt is being driven by a hunter group, the Alaska Outdoors Council. The Board of Game apporving this hunt is composed mainly of AOC members. As a 38-year resident of Alaska I am appalled by this latest outrage on our wildlife by the BOG.

  25. Raylaible Says:

    What a great video …
What a great video and compelling message. This change in policy is despicable and should be opposed by all who value wildlife. This hunt will deny many visitors to the state of Alaska the opportunity to view these magnificent animals in their natural setting. It would seem that the economic impact from the loss of this valuable resource would be a compelling reason on its own merits to reverse this decision.
